As the Nigerian population expands, the demand for healthcare products and service have been on the rise. However, not only is demand rising, the diversity of healthcare needs is increasing rapidly as the nation battles with myriads of disease outbreaks, notably the most recent pandemic- the COVID19. The pandemic has once more established that nations with substandard healthcare infrastructure are more vulnerable to a health crisis. In this report, we analyze the structure and value chain of the healthcare system in Nigeria, exposing the challenges faced by the public and private sector participants. We have provided a detailed evaluation of the impact of COVID, juxtaposing the unpreparedness of the health system with success recorded so far, and our outlook for the post-COVID era.
